The result is not only a better understanding of physics, but possibly a better grade. The bottom line is that this book was written to help students better understand the mathematical parts of undergraduate classical mechanics so they can concentrate on learning physics, not math.

While it is clear that the immediate cause of the accident was a turbine test gone wrong, Plokhy shows how the deeper roots of Chernobyl lay in the nature of the Soviet political system and the flaws of its nuclear industry.

Bandwidth: how mathematics, physics, and chemistry constrain society

Alexander Scheeline ; foreword by Susan Avery. - New Jersey ; London ; Singapore ; Beijing ; Shanghai ; Hong Kong ; Taipei ; Chennai ; Tokyo : World Scientific, [2023]

This book explains how limitations in the movement and perception of information constrain human behavior, cognition, interaction, and perspective. How fast can we learn? How much? Why are habits and biases unavoidable? Why is the common statement "any nation that can land people on the moon surely can ..." frequently wrong? Using equations and physical models, this book describes constraints which, in part, explain political, economic, religious, and personal frictions.

Group theory: finite discrete groups and applications

John Demetrius Vergados, Vasiliki-Ioanna Vergadou-Remediaki. - New Jersey ; London ; Singapore ; Beijing ; Shanghai ; Hong Kong ; Taipei ; Chennai ; Tokyo : World Scientific Publishing, [2023]

This book deals with the role played by symmetry in the understanding of the physical world, beginning with the notion of geometric symmetries of the ancient Greek philosophers and mathematicians. The recognition of the existence of symmetries led to the notion of transformations, which led from one state of the system to another. It was then realized that such transformations, under the operation of multiplication, constitute an interesting set, whose study led to the branch of mathematics known as Group Theory.

The laws of observation

The laws of observation

George Jaroszkiewicz. - New Jersey ; London ; Singapore ; Beijing ; Shanghai ; Hong Kong ; Taipei ; Chennai ; Tokyo : World Scientific, [2023]

During decades, some sophisticated theoretical hypotheses have been proposed and studied, in an effort to break the log-jam of the Standard Model. None of those hypotheses have succeeded to date. Of greater concern is the increasing tendency by some practitioners in those fields to downplay the empirical principles of science. In response, this book is a restatement of those principles, covering numerous aspects of observation. A particular focus is on contextuality versus realism, the two fundamentally contrasting ideologies that underpin modern physics.

How to derive a formula. Volume 2: Further analytical skills and methods for physical scientists

Alexei A. Kornyshev, Dominic O’Lee. - New Jersey ; London ; Singapore ; Beijing ; Shanghai ; Hong Kong ; Taipei ; Chennai ; Tokyo : World Scientific, [2024]. - (Essential textbooks in physics)

This two-volume book is an attempt to engage learners by presenting mathematical methods in as simple terms as possible, with more of an emphasis on skills as opposed to technical knowledge. Based on intuition and common sense rather than mathematical rigour, it teaches students from scratch using pertinent examples, many taken from across the physical sciences to demonstrate the application of the methods taught. This book draws on humour and historical facts to provide an interesting new perspective on what a mathematics textbook could be.
